Litchfield Town Profile
A rural farming town of 7,975 people, Litchfield nestles quietly along the Merrimack River, a bedroom community of primarily single family homes and little industry. Sandwiched between the two largest cities in southern New Hampshire, Nashua and Manchester, Litchfield is known for its roadside stands and farming produce. The town center, a quaint mixture of town hall, library, church and fire station, is clustered along the main thoroughfare, Route 3A, across from the Merrimack River. While the population has increased nearly sevenfold since 1960, Litchfield residents have been able to plan ahead to maintain a balance of farmland, small businesses and residential neighborhoods with housing costs averaging $275,000.
